NEW TRAILS NETWORK & THE TAMAR TRAIL FESTIVAL
First things first, are they open yet?
Hold your horses folks (and your bikes and boots)! The trails are not open yet.
Health and safety work has not been completed on these trails and they are not yet open to the public. Once we are confident of an opening date, this will be widely publicised. In the meantime, we ask that no-one uses the trails – it’s for your own safety. Thanks very much for your patience.
Trail Testing
A big thank you to all those that took part in the trail testing at Devon Great Consols and Morwellham Quay Nature Reserve. Volunteers on foot, bicycle, wheelchair and horse all turned out to help us identify work that needs to be finished and snag any problems before the trails can open to the public. The day also provided us with lots of creative ideas of how to tell the fascinating stories of Devon Great Consols and its mining past.
THE FIRST EVER TAMAR TRAIL FESTIVAL
17 October – 2 November
Bigger than a walking festival…
Better than a bike ride…
Bolder than a pony trek…
The Tamar Valley AONB is planning its first ever TRAIL festival, celebrating all these activities and much more.
After lots of feedback from community groups, we realized that there is plenty of enthusiasm out there to celebrate access to our area of outstanding natural beauty. So, to launch the opening of the new trails network and to show-off the stunning landscape to anyone and everyone, the Tamar Trail Festival will bring together a range of events from groups, clubs and organisations across the region.
WANT TO GET INVOLVED IN THE TRAIL FESTIVAL?
The Tamar Valley AONB will be helping to co-ordinate and promote the festival as a whole. What we need from you, is your ideas for events that you can organize and run during the festival period – as individuals or groups. This could include a range of activities along any trails in and around the valley (not just the new trails), such as horse riding events, downhill mountain bike races, themed walks and rambles, orienteering events, walks for health, cycling skills, water-based trails, canoeing, family events and wildlife treks...to name a few. Your imagination is the limit.
We’ll be able to offer lots of publicity and as much or as little advice as you want for your events.
Can you help? Would you be able to organise and host an event? Or just want some extra info? If so, please contact Jemma Sharman on 01579 351 904 or email jsharman@tamarvalley.org.uk
