    • Shell Wildlife Photographer of the Year - Until 30th August
      From vivid, colourful landscapes to intimate portraits of animal behaviour, the Shell Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition offers an extraordinary insight into the beauty, drama and diversity of the natural world.
      Shell Wildlife Photographer of the Year is owned by the Natural History Museum and BBC Wildlife Magazine.

    • Free Guided Tour of Prince of Wales Mine Site - Thursday 3rd July
      Building consolidation and safety works at Prince of Wales Mine situated at Rising Sun, Harrowbarrow are drawing to a close.   To mark the opening of the Prince of Wales Mine there will be a free guided tour of the site given by archaeologist Colin Buck of the County Council’s Historic Environment Service.
      Once the works are completed the public will have access to the three historic engine houses on the site, as well as a new footpath through the site.
      When?   Starting at 7pm.  Meet at the site entrance. 
      Booking not necessary.  All are welcome.
      Site visitors will be required to keep to designated areas for safety reasons, and to prevent disturbance to wildlife.

      A 5-mile walk with Stephen Docksey that will pass railways, quarries, brickworks and mines.

    • Cotehele Estate Walkabout - Sunday 20 July
      The National Trust’s Cotehele estate of nearly 1400 aces enjoys an abundance of footpaths and tracks, some confirmed on OS maps... others not. This two hour stroll combines some established paths together with newly created paths being walked for the first time. Organised by Calstock Footpath Society, the route includes a few gradients and in places may be rough underfoot so appropriate shoes or boots should be worn. The locality provides excellent photo opportunity and also enables participants to visit the recently opened Cotehele Discovery Centre before or after. Refreshments will be available at the Edgcumbe Arms cafe.

    • A Fish Sale Explored - From 26th July to 1st November
      A new exploration of this iconic Newlyn School painting by Stanhope Forbes. This exhibition will feature photographs and archival material to bring some of the historic context surrounding the painting to life. Alongside the painting we will display photographs, documents, natural history specimens, and a comparison between the beach at Newlyn in 1885 and today in 2008.

    • Callington Honey Fair, 1st, Wednesday
      On the first Wednesday in October, the Honey Fair boasts street traders, entertainers and exhibitors from far afield. This established tradition was revived in 1978 and is now run by Callington Lions Club. Attractions usually include street and charity stalls, a shop window competition and a visiting Fun Fair.
    • Tamar Valley Talks - The History of Picture Postcards - 1st October
      With Paul Rendell.  The British picture postcard started in 1890's. This talk will look at the history and the 'tricks of the trade' used over the period of last 100 years and many other aspects of the humble postcard. Why was postcard first used?

      TAMAR TRAIL FESTIVAL 2008

      This will be the first Trail Festival ever organized in the Tamar Valley AONB.

      Enjoy the golden hues of Autumn during the festival with specially organised walks for all abilities.  Community groups, local historians and wildlife experts are keen to show the beauty of the Valley.  Subject will range from fungal forays and local history to industrial archaeology and mineral treasure hunts.
